My bikes: Kona King Kikapu, Cannondale Six13,
Cannondale Optimo Cyclocross bike
Notable bike racing experience:
My very first race. Long course. Technical. It even
had a river crossing! I was hooked since that day.
My 5 a.m. lap during the 24 hours of Great Glen. The sun coming up through the fog in the mountains. On my
descent through the valley there was a lone bagpipe player
playing as the sun began to rise behind him. It was such a
serene feeling.
Why you ride: I love the thrill of riding fast singletrack. The
trees turn to a blur and you stay focused on the trail ahead.
Riding bikes keeps my competitive edge sharp. I love the
open country roads and the wind in my hair. I love beating
the boys. I see new places and meet new people who I
would not have otherwise met.
How did you get into cycling? I’ve always rode my
bicycles more than the neighborhood kids. I rode a steel
Huffy all around the forest and roads of my town. Never
ever did I think all these years later I’d still be that little girl
riding her bicycle all over the place. |
"I love being around the girls who are just getting started
with cycling. They’re so enthusiastic and want to learn. I
love seeing them challenge themselves and succeed!
When they get excited for riding it rubs off on me. For me,
their enthusiasm is contagious. It brings me back to when I
was just starting. " - Abbie
Interesting fact about Abbie - Abbie has won every
monkey race (running on all fours) she has ever entered.
Unfortunately, Abbie has a gift for getting lost, so those
monkey races sometimes take a long time! |
