I live in Malden, next to the Middlesex Fells Reservation land so I can ride out my front door into the woods or during the winter go for a hike in the snow.
My bikes - Mountain ride is a Gary Fisher Hi Fi Deluxe, boy's bike. Road ride is a Merlin Fortius that my husband gave me in lieu of an engagement ring. He said, "Elizabeth this bike is titanium and titanium lasts forever. That's how long I want to be with you."
Why you ride – I love exercise, moving my body through space. I’ve always been a mover. Trampoline, swimming, ballet, softball, runner, yogini, biker. I’ve ridden a bike since I could walk but it turned to a serious passion when I had to give up running. Appreciate the speed of road riding and checking out mentally to take in views. And the power and skill and mental be-here-now-or-crash intensity of mountain biking.
Win any cool awards? Not for biking. But I have been honored with photographic awards and art prizes.
Notable non-bike racing experiences: Notable - None that I can recall. Although anytime I beat my husband over some tough terrain or up a hill I revel in it.
How do you fuel your riding/racing? Nuts and dried cranberries during a ride. A great cup of java immediately after.
